How to use a hydrating face mask, and how often
By the LÉRA team · · 2 min read

The short answer
Apply a hydrating rinse-off mask to clean, dry skin in an even layer, avoiding your eyes. Leave it on for the time on the pack (most rinse-off masks are 10 to 20 minutes), rinse with lukewarm water, and follow with your usual moisturizer. Use it whenever your skin feels tight or tired; hydrating masks are gentle enough that there's no need to ration them.
Step by step
- Cleanse and pat your skin dry.
- Apply an even layer, avoiding the eye area and your lips.
- Leave it on for the time on the pack.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Hot water feels nice and dries skin out.
- Follow with your usual serum and moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp.
How often should you use a hydrating mask?
As often as your skin likes it. Hydrating masks are gentle by design: unlike exfoliating or clay masks, they don't need rationing. Many people settle on two or three evenings a week, or the night before something.
What makes a mask hydrating
- Humectants such as glycerin, betaine and hyaluronic acid, which help skin hold on to water.
- Soothing extracts such as centella asiatica.
- Barrier support from ingredients like niacinamide.
What's in the Red Tea Mask
The Red Tea Mask layers three forms of hyaluronic acid with glycerin and betaine, 2.3% niacinamide and a stabilized vitamin C (3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid), finished with tremella (snow mushroom), centella asiatica, rose water and red and green tea extracts. It's a 100 ml tube. If you've heard you shouldn't mix niacinamide and vitamin C, you can.
Rinse-off, sheet or sleeping mask?
- Rinse-off masks go on, stay for a set time and come off with water.
- Sheet masks are a single-use fabric soaked in serum, peeled off after a while.
- Sleeping masks stay on all night, like our lip sleeping mask does for lips.
